Because He Delivers You
"For He will deliver you from the fowler’s snare" (Psalm 91:3)
God delivers His people from the fowler’s snare. This is understood in two ways: The first means that He will deliver from the “fowler’s snare,” that is, He will not let them fall into that snare at all. The second means that He will deliver “from the fowler’s snare” if they fall into that snare. In the first sense, how does God deliver “from the fowler’s snare”?
Hardships are often God’s means of salvation. God knows that our turning away from His way will lead to our own ruin. In His mercy, He sends us the rod of discipline. Then we say, "Lord, why is this?" not knowing that the hardships we face are the means by which God delivers us from a far greater evil. Many have been saved from destruction by their sorrows and crosses, as if these sorrows and hardships were a means of frightening the birds so that they would be aware of the trap and not fall into it.
Sometimes God delivers His people"from the snare of the fowler" by giving them such great spiritual strength that when tempted to do evil, they say as Joseph did,"How can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" (Gen. 39:9). But on the other hand, what a blessed thing it is that if a believer, in an evil hour, falls into the snare, God will deliver him from it.
O believer who has turned from the Lord, you may be cast down, but do not despair. You may stray from your Master, but hear what the Redeemer says:
"Return, you rebellious children, and I will heal your rebellion" (Jeremiah 3:22).
You may say: I cannot return because I have become a prisoner, so hear the promise: "For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler." Yes, you will come out of all the evils into which you have fallen.
You may fall and repent of your ways repeatedly, but - He who loves you - will not cast you out from before his face, but will receive you and give you joy and gladness so that the bones that he crushed will rejoice. Not a bird of paradise can die in the snare of the fowler.
